It takes a second for Togusa to realize what Ardyn just said there, because his tone was so plain, but then his entire face lights up. He laughs first. "Ardyn! Congratulations, oh my goodness!" More laughing, and he reaches out to pat Ardyn on the shoulder, because he isn't entirely certain how to react.
"Wow! I knew you two were serious, but this is amazing. I'm happy for you both!"
Dante shakes his head. "Don't worry about it. I didn't come here thinking you were going to be able to make some diagnosis like a doctor. I just wanted someone else's opinion."
And he got it, even if it's unfortunately confirming what he'd been worried about.
And he is trying to bring this under control, trying to lock it away like he has done so for other bad memories. That it wasn't really his didn't matter. A part of himself felt that it was and that part was far too relaxed over the whole thing. Was that child beating on things in the rain suppose to turn into this?
"I guess all I wanted to do was to tell someone. I could talk to David, he gets this shit from me all the time. But I think I wanted to talk to someone older, and someone that I can trust."
It's only when Togusa clasps a hand on his back does Ardyn let out something of a sincere laugh, smiling. For the sake of dramatics, he drops the dramatic pauses and build-up, instead looking at his friend with bright eyes. It's obvious that the delirious happiness from the day it happened -- unexpected as it was -- still has yet to wear off completely.
"Thank you. It wasn't exactly something I had planned for ahead of time, or else I would've told you about it sooner."
Togusa smiles a little in relief, and nods. "You're welcome, any time. If you've got to go before Grell starts looking for you, I get it. Just let me know what she says, especially if it turns out to be better than I thought."
Togusa reaches over to take over petting duties, since Daisuke does not look like he is wanting to move at all.
Togusa follows along with the laughter. "Of course you didn't plan on it. Got swept up in a moment and one thing led to another? You two make sense together, she's just as much of a romantic as you are." It's a happy shake of his head, not in disbelief, but in joy for Ardyn. Togusa hopes this level of happiness never ends, Ardyn deserves it.
"I-" Togusa is quietly incredibly honored that Yoon-sung considers him someone he could trust. "Thank you. I'm glad you have someone at all that you can trust. Good that you've got more than one so you're not putting it all on David, I suppose."
This time Togusa does sigh so that Yoon-sung can hear it. "You know my position on this, I'll be the one to keep reminding you that he's not you. That you don't have to turn into him, no matter what Retrospec does. And you don't have to feel the guilt of someone else's actions."
"I'd probably have a while before she started worrying," Dante says, but he's going to go ahead and get up from the couch regardless, pulling his sleeve down over the cast. "But I'll let you know." He reaches over to give Daisuke another scratch behind the ears, grabbing the messenger bag from the floor. "Thanks again, Togusa."
Exactly. It doesn't really make sense, does it? But that's how it was.
He has not, no. Not really. He remembered a doctor called Mori as well, though. A Mori different from the one I remembered. But I don't know if Mori and Mori have the same first name. Still, it doesn't make much sense, though maybe it just is coincidences.
So remember that talk we had where you said I was gonna remember losing my arm at some point Retrospect took it one step further Looks like you guessed right on your post
"Getting swept up in the moment was one way to describe it," he concedes with clear humor in his words. "Unexpected, yes, and maybe others might call us a pair of hopeless, romantic fools."
But since when has Ardyn ever cared of what others thought? As long as they were both happy, comforted by the blessing of their closest friends, then nothing else mattered.
"It feels right. I have no other way to explain it."

Embarrassing, really.
