"Nah, he got his comeuppance. He ended up brute-forcing a puzzle in here, so he fell through trap doors twenty times. He landed on James, and James punched him in the junk. I pretended not to notice. It was pretty satisfying."
[A tired sigh.]
"I got my ass kicked by a giant robot. Apparently other-Togusa fought giant cyborgs, too. So I'm having a day."
"Damn! He was punched in the nuts!? I'm so glad I have a good relationship with karma. My group managed to turn that power generator on after damn near dying. I'm trying to get all patched up now."
[Fynn can't help but chuckle some.]
"A giant robot, huh? Is that worse or better than getting electrocuted by a giant electric rat? I'm not certain. Wait...you mean your "other-self" is a bad ass cyborg killer?
"You just want another crack at my gun," Togusa quips, but it's good-natured. Shooting with Fynn? Always fun.
"Shiiiimatta," even if you don't know the translation, that was definitely a swear word.
"All right, so remember when we went poking around down there? I tried to see if I could get to the center of town, and no dice. It was as if space looped in on itself when I should have been underneath City Hall. Looked like I was walking outside, and then I took one step too far, got back where I started."
[Fynn can't help but laugh some. He would be lying if he claimed not to be intrigued with Togusa's Mateba. That's one classy weapon.]
"Heh? Is that Japanese for 'Oh shit', Toga?" [Yep, that definitely sounds like the Japanese equivalent to that typical American swear.]
"The Retrospec goons don't want us getting too close to their main headquarters, so they use special technology to keep their little maze rats at bay. However, what transpired at the convention was something of an controlled accident from what I can tell."
"Probably judging from what transpired, that's what I think."
[Put on your tinfoil hat, Togusa. It's conspiracy time!]
"Do you remember the projector at the convention? The one that summoned the monsters? Well, it has a Retrospect logo on it, didn't it? Bright cyan blue if I remember correctly."
"That's what you were doing there when I ran into you. I wondered why you were precisely in the center of all the danger. Thought you were just lucky."
"So, all right. Kaiba's booth, but Retrospec's projector. Their tech, not his?"
"Exactly. I started digging up information about Seto Kaiba's involvement in the disaster. This man doesn't have much of a record and he has folks vouching for his innocence."
[One of those people vouching for Kaiba happens to be the man's alleged boyfriend, Fai.]
"I wouldn't be surprised if Retrospec's booth at the convention was just a means of surveillance. They wanted to see what would happen with their own eyes, guaranteed."
"And, conveniently, Mister Kaiba is one of the people who nobody can find right now. Okay. So they did whatever started this, but it got out of control. Used Kaiba's public event as a platform, and then it didn't stop. So they're calling on us to fix it. Alternative assets, as the app said."
"Do we go so far as to say that everyone's disappearance is also an accident? Kaiba, Dante, Kihara, everybody. Had a couple of people asking me about their kids."
"You catch on quick, Toga! That's everything I've managed to figure out so far."
"It has to have been all an 'accident' in the sense of an experiment gone wrong. I don't doubt that the Retrogoons are taking notes about us as we speak."
A long sigh sounds through the phone. "I'm getting more and more sympathetic to the individual employees and more and more pissed at the actual corporation here. What the hell are they doing?"
"Since I've got their tech right here, I guess it's time to start looking for logs down here. Something that can prove that they started this. What do you need? What would prove you right?"
[Fynn cannot help but feel somewhat sympathetic towards his colleague.]
"Forgive me for being the bearer of bad news and all that but I honestly think the truth behind this bizarre experiment is a long ways off."
[Even though Togusa can't see it, Fynn is trying to cheer him with a smile. He's aware of how stressful this situation is but at least Togusa isn't alone in this venture anymore. He has a wide cast of characters helping him, especially Fynn. The Izunia wasn't joking about bring Retrospec to justice. He's taken his oath to heart here.]
"I would definitely solid written proof that everything here is Retrospec's doing. Every notable oddity that ever happened upon the app, more of those odd profile cards you sent me last time, and also physical documentations of their work. I need phone records, financial, anything that could incriminate them in the court of law. Hell, I already started to take pictures of anything and everything bearing their logo along with their underground power facility at the University."
"All right. We can do this. I'll get you whatever I can from down here. Let's not get so lost in the big picture that we don't lose sight of the smaller steps."
"We can do this right." Togusa sounds significantly more confident as he stands back up.
"Thanks. I guess one of us is going to have to write all this up for the people missing the party, hunh?"
Re: 8/7 voice;
"Fynn? How are you doing?"
no subject
[Of course Fynn would say that despite being pretty damn exhausted too.]
"How are you holding up? Did you end up killing the twerp?"
no subject
[A tired sigh.]
"I got my ass kicked by a giant robot. Apparently other-Togusa fought giant cyborgs, too. So I'm having a day."
no subject
[Fynn can't help but chuckle some.]
"A giant robot, huh? Is that worse or better than getting electrocuted by a giant electric rat? I'm not certain. Wait...you mean your "other-self" is a bad ass cyborg killer?
That's kind of neat!"
no subject
"I say as I got tossed around by a giant robot. I would debate the cyborg-killer thing, but I remember dropping the guy."
[A thunk of Togusa's head leaning against the wall behind him.]
"It's all power restoration, you, too? Where are you, anyway? Where did your marker send you?"
no subject
[He's reckless bugger even on a good day but Fynn needs to cool it.]
"Maybe you need to 'level up' your cyborg hunting skills, Toga. You have a long way to go, I bet."
[He pauses briefly for a moment before answering.]
"Recolle University or rather under it."
no subject
"Under it?" Togusa's tone turns interested.
"Basement. Your brother said he's in a bunker. Are all of us underground? That makes the whole subway thing even more suspicious."
no subject
[Prepare yourself, Togusa. Firearms 101 is going to begin soon.]
"Bingo! This leads me to believe that the main heart of Retrospec is below ground. Maybe that's why the subway is closed off."
no subject
"Shiiiimatta," even if you don't know the translation, that was definitely a swear word.
"All right, so remember when we went poking around down there? I tried to see if I could get to the center of town, and no dice. "You're absolutely right. Damn it."
no subject
[Fynn can't help but laugh some. He would be lying if he claimed not to be intrigued with Togusa's Mateba. That's one classy weapon.]

"Stick with me, you'll learn your Japanese one inappropriate term at a time..."
"But okay, time out. Did Retrospec mean for monsters to get loose or not? And how do you know?"
no subject
[Put on your tinfoil hat, Togusa. It's conspiracy time!]
"Do you remember the projector at the convention? The one that summoned the monsters? Well, it has a Retrospect logo on it, didn't it? Bright cyan blue if I remember correctly."
no subject
[You assume he ever takes it off, Fynn.]"That's what you were doing there when I ran into you. I wondered why you were precisely in the center of all the danger. Thought you were just lucky."
"So, all right. Kaiba's booth, but Retrospec's projector. Their tech, not his?"

Good to cap this off?
"We can do this right." Togusa sounds significantly more confident as he stands back up.
"Thanks. I guess one of us is going to have to write all this up for the people missing the party, hunh?"
y/y
[He's relieved to hear such confidence again, Toga. He had Fynn worried for a second there.]
"I think someone actually beaten us to that. A girl by the name of Li-Na. She sent me the list via email. Just received it."
:)
A measured pause, then, because he has to. "Be safe out there, okay? I'll check in again soon."
o7 /salute
"I will! You still owe me that drink, Togusa. I haven't forgotten."
[And with that, Fynn hangs up.]
