[ On the one hand, the nightmares and things that the fog has brought, and the concern for people he has encountered in those times, have completely thrown him out of the loop. On the other, it's still his best friends birthday and Koutarou wouldn't miss that even though he sucks at birthdays. He even has prepared a present for him. And he calls when he knows Togusa isn't at work yet, but not so early that he'd still be asleep or half-asleep. ]

Because of everything that has been going on for the past week, Togusa was trying to keep things quiet, maybe not mention that he was having a birthday. But the one exception to that is Koutarou. He's off work today (off for two weeks' administrative leave, really, but who's counting?). But he's touched that Koutarou is making the time so early.

The smile is audible in his voice when he picks up the phone. "Good morning, Koutarou! Oh, thank you!"

“Good morning to you too! I didn’t wake you up, did I?”

"Nuh-unh." Togusa might still be stretched out in bed, but he was awake. "I was almost wondering if this was too early for you, really."

"Getting into anything today?" Togusa has nothing planned, but it also means he can drop anything else for his friend.

“You know my schedule is all over the place.” The only times one can actually know exactly where he is is when he has classes, which he had yesterday but not today. “Nope, I have nothing out of the ordinary. You?”

"I- ah, might have a lunch scheduled later," Koutarou can just hear the blush on Togusa's end of the phone. "Nothing too special," and that's a minimization. After everyone's encouragements, he got up the nerve to talk to Gentiana again.

"Totally free otherwise! I'd hoped to be able to run into you." Opening the door because he would really like to see Koutarou today.
