There is a very long relieved breath out with a muttered rushed "you stupid fucking gimme a heart attack" while Togusa flumps back down into bed.
"Please. Please," said through a hand over his face, "double-check the context of your texts before you send them, holy shit."
Give him a second over here, where Togusa stares at the ceiling and seriously debates going to get the sake bottle out of the fridge. Oh, he casts one longing look at the door, but that would require getting up. "Right. Real reason you called. Fuck, did you remember getting shot?"
Tatsuo lets out a small, embarrassed laugh. Seriously, what should he
expect when he texts a police officer in the middle of the night that
someone was shot...
"My bad..."
In his defense... yeah, no, he has pretty much no excuse and he knows it.
"Yeah, I think it was because I had another of those shared dreams earlier
this month and I got shot in that dream. And then tonight I
remembered what happened to Ryuuzaki. He took a bullet for someone."
My bad, Togusa rolls his eyes on his end. Revenge will come, Kihara. Just not now.
"Was that what happened in what I saw? The house fire?" Because if this Ryuuzaki guy has gotten shot more than once, Togusa is going to have to re-evaluate what he thinks of him.
"Yes, though I don't think that was a house. They were in an amusement park. He looked up... there was an observation platform in the park, and he saw two men up there. One of them had a gun."
Tatsuo still isn't sure how Ryuuzaki spotted those two guys, or how he saw the gun. He's not too keen to revisit the memory in order to find out either.
"Ryuuzaki just... lept up and shoved one of the men with him out if the way."
Oh. Dreams are weird. Togusa runs a hand over his face. Maybe he wasn't in a strictly re-lived memory of Tatsuo's. But a little of more than once incident.
"Protection detail?" Togusa has to ask. "Sounds like he knew it was coming for the person he was with. Then got damn lucky." Pause. "Or unlucky, depending on how you count it. He took the shot for the guy?"
Protection detail... yeah, let's go with that. While Tatsuo has no issue telling Majima and Kiryu that this guy in Ryuuzaki's memories is definitely 100% without a doubt a yakuza, he's not quite ready to divulge that particular detail to Togusa for some reason.
"Maybe. I'm still missing a lot of context for that night, as well as the chunk between Ryuuzaki getting shot and him staggering out of the burning building. But yeah. He jumped up, shoved the other guy behind him, and just... made himself a bigger target I think."
Togusa frowns sharply. "This is confusing just to listen to, I bet it's got to be confusing for you, too. Do you want the missing context? If you're trying to get it to trigger, we still haven't found a foolproof way, but we can try..." Togusa is on the side of trying to hang on to himself as much as possible, to deny the memories that are encroaching in. But he can respect that a few other people are not.
"No. No, I tried triggering something once and I got way more than I bargained for, so I'm not doing that again." Tatsuo lets out a slightly bitter laugh. "So while I am curious about the context, I'm not inclined to go looking for it."
