An object that has become possessed of a soul. But if I’m remembering right, it’s a soul that belongs to the object rather than a simple demon possession?
As for your earlier question, I'm not quite sure if I was aware from the beginning or not. What I know is that I remember my master dying in battle in front of me... because of me. And then being in that temple for hundreds of years.
I suppose either way, you would only be aware of the point when you gained a soul forwards? Or do you think you might eventually remember back that far?
All I know is that after a very long time, I had another master who called for me and gave me a human body. But even with that body, I still remained a sword.
That new master of mine, they needed my help, and that of others like me to fight other enemies. So they summoned me and gave me this body that looks exactly like the one I have now. Not much changed except I had to learn how human bodies function and how to take care of them.
[Surprise, Togusa! Mikleo is your Secret Santa this year! He'll get a neatly wrapped present with the following:
-A knitted scarf -A pair of gloves -A gun holster that's both functional and has a subtle design on it
There's also a note.]
Merry Christmas, Officer. I thought I'd get you something practical this year. I wasn't sure how old your holster is, but it's always good to have a backup, right?
It’s something that has happened a few times. Retrospec’s basic operation seems to be restoring memories of other people to us. But, yes, sometimes we’ll fall out of sync, so to speak, and forget everything about Retospec. Hasn’t happened to me, but to others.
That's actually a good question. I haven't checked on people's memories from other places.
I had a senior officer who got dropped out of the loop a few times, he's still out now. I want to say the memory of the rest of his career, his childhood, should all still be intact. He wouldn't remember now, for example, all the reports I gave him on Retrospec's activities. Just doesn't notice it.
[That holster actually means a lot to Togusa. It fits the Mateba perfectly, and somehow, distancing himself from a piece of the Other-Togusa makes the gun a little more his. The gesture is really touching.]
Mikleo,
Merry Christmas to you, too. Thank you so much for the presents. I can't really explain how much that means to me. I suppose, this means another thank you to Sora for getting all of us together, too, hunh?
I wish you well this Christmas, and I look forward to seeing you at your wedding.
Thank you, Hitori Togusa
P.S: I think we're a little past 'Officer.' It's okay, I promise.
Yeah. That much, he's got. Still gives me orders, still gets into spats with Izunia. He just didn't think it was weird that there were monsters running around the city in August.
You weren't here for it? Noticed I hadn't seen your name before, figured you were new to the app.
It was like a portal, or something. Retrospec called it 'unreality.' They referred to it as a storm. Things came through, things disappeared. About a third of the users, even Retrospec staff, got pulled through to other places, and things from other places came here. Dragons, giant mechanical birds, things that shouldn't exist, it was all here and attacking people.
It's not that the other cops weren't reacting. They were there, saving people, defending the city, but they were all acting weird. Like it was all just an expected part of the job.
The monsters was August. We had an easy September, but then things got dangerous again in October. The fog, lots of people were getting attacked by anything you could think of coming out of it. Last two months has seen a lot of request for help training.
So if you're not from here, where'd you come from?
[He's not a fighter, but he's also used to being able to buy his way out of problems and this is mostly information that he's storing because he thinks maybe he can hire one or more of these people to protect him if he actually has to see real monsters. That said, he's got a very strong visual image of a monster-storm on an island and that's enough to freak him out a little.
So his response to the question is a little clipped even for him.]
